Criteria for Leadership and Student Achievement & Letters of Support

Nomination Process & Timelines
- The Nomination Form is to be submitted to the provincial or territorial local association by 28 October 2013. See Local Association Addresses for nomination submission address information for the appropriate Association. Nominees should have the career potential and willingness to have an even more important impact on publicly funded education in the future.
- Nominations must include a Leadership and Student Achievement Personal Case Story (maximum five pages) about the nominee’s leadership experience in establishing deep, cultural change in a school that led to Improved Student Achievement. This case story should illustrate a successful partnership that actively engaged staff, parents and community. See Criteria for Case Story and Letters of Support .
- Nominations must include Supporting Letters from at least four of the key stakeholders to support the case story – school staff, (secondary school) students, district supervisory officials, parents, local business members, members of the community at large, and social agency partners. One letter must be from a parent. See Criteria for Case Story and Letters of Support.
- For member associations that require it, a Pastoral Letter of Support must be included as one of the support letters.
- All nominees that are forwarded to the National Selection Committee will be informed of the results, by The Learning Partnership, by January 18, 2014.
- The successful nominees will be recognized for their unique contribution to education in Canada at a Gala Celebration event, hosted by The Learning Partnership, during the five day program in Toronto.
- Travel (air and ground), accommodation expenses, the Opening Dinner, the Gala Awards Celebration Dinner, breakfasts and lunches will be paid by The Learning Partnership.
- The successful nominees will also: a) engage in a multifaceted Leadership Development experience with their colleagues from across Canada in an Executive Program at the University of Toronto, internationally recognized Rotman School of Management. b) contribute to an opportunity to share best practices with their colleagues. c) be energized to begin the journey of expanding their impact on their communities and building a personal agenda for community engagement.
Winners of the Canada’s Outstanding Principals Award are expected to commit to the following:
Attend and be a fully participating member of the Executive Leadership Training program from Sunday, February 23, 2014 to Thursday, February 27, 2014 in Toronto at the Rotman School of Management.
Commit to being an Ambassador for The Learning Partnership and for public education. Keep current on new initiatives. Commit to hosting a TLP program in the school or district. Be prepared to make presentations emphasizing the importance of public education, the experience at the Rotman School of Management and the role of principal as community leader.
Commit to being involved as an Academy member and accept the responsibility to be an education leader who undertakes a coaching/mentoring relationship with a colleague/colleagues from their own district.
- During this one year program, this unique cadre of education leaders will continue their facilitated on line discussions on leadership issues, important to them, and be supported in their community engagement and personal mentoring programs for colleagues in their home school communities.
- As part of the Alumni Team, this group will become champions of a forum for Canada’s Outstanding Principals™ on Education Leadership. They will actively collaborate in developing and communicating about issues important to publicly funded education with research support from The Learning Partnership.
- A full Nomination Package consists of:
a) a completed Nomination Form. b) Characteristics of Canada’s Outstanding Principals form completed. b) at least four Support Letters. A Pastoral Support Letter if applicable. c) a Leadership and Student Achievement Personal Case Story that actively engaged staff, parents and the community.
